Project 1 - Self Expression Through Object "Representing Me"

The EDGY 8 is inspired by the tough and boxy looking DSLR camera. The robustness of the DSLR camera being waterproof, weather resistant and has a tough body also reflected deeply on my personality. Robustness in definition means strength and vigorous. Also, a robust mind means a mind that is unwavering.

At the top of the object, it has two horns that is pointed upwards to show a strong and armored point of view.

Every corners of the cube are cut to show that, what made me tough and going are because of past wounds that made me stronger.

The swiveling corners surrounding the object indicates a barrier of defences protecting the inner cores.

The support at the bottom indicates a person who is rooted but at the same time flexible to change and adapt for different circumstances.

Ultimately, this project has taught me more about myself. For example, I am able to relate myself to a DSLR camera's body . I also realize that design is achievable by a series process that includes brainstorming and lots of sketching. Model making skills is also another major achievement that I obtain from this project.

Project 2 - Self Expression through Architectural Space "Life Capsule"

Year of production: 2014. Crescendo.

CRESCENDO is designed for a person who likes to sing however is also shy or afraid to be judged while singing. The life capsule, CRESCENDO is designed to prepare more confidence to the user mentally to face a greater audience in the future.

The capsule will be placed in a busy pedestrian area in the bustling city where many passerby will notice the music and singing coming from inside and spark a curiousity among them to walk through the tunnels. In a busy city lifestyle, this life capsule also serves as a place to vent out stress as the user sings in it or sits down in it to enjoy another user singing.

All in all, this project was the most fun among all projects and brought all of us closer together wokring as a team. Working through a week, day and night didn't feel as if like a day at all. I enjoy every moment and time that was placed into building the human size life capsule. Every aspect from the idea stage, designing stage and the final stage all served to help us develope a better understanding in human anthropometrics, human desires in terms of functions, usage of space, big scale cardboards cutting and accuracy in measurements and mathematics calculations.

A bassier experience when music is played from the dock in the chair.

Project 3 - Dreamscape For The Self "Hide Out"

Year of production: 2014. Divergent Inspired Site Model.

Site

The site architecture and surroundings are closely made to resemble the movie "Divergent". Divergent the movie took place in the future whereby the city has been turned into a Dystopia. Ironically, though many advancements in technology and human communication thought to have been brought into mankind by the brilliant yet brutal minds in the movie. Although it is taken place in the future, it closely resembles the current city of Chicago and remains pretty much the same.

Hide Out - CLEF

Albert Einstein was chosen as the client. Albert Einstein once said, had he not been a scientist, he would have been a musician. "Life without playing music is in conceivable for me," he declared. "I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music... I get most joy in life out of music."

The concept of CLEF is music from Mozart.

Sonata In E-Minor By Mozart

Space 1 - Entrance

Unknown Track - Unknown Artist
00:00 / 00:00

Sonata in E-Minor was written after the death of Mozart's mother. The song was written to cheer him up in the mist of hardship.

The Piano and Forte of the song influenced the shape of the first space, the entrance.

Staccato found in the scores are the small steps of staircase.

A small nook that acts as a mini library is present to sit down and relax.

The song is translated into a space where it is personalized  solely for the client, Albert Einstein. As the client enters the space, he will feel lost between the tight space because of the tightness and narrow pathway, and after the staircase, the client will approach a small library to sit down, read and relax.

Space 2 - Stairways

Turkish March By Mozart

Unknown Track - Unknown Artist
00:00 / 00:00

A fast paced and repetitive song that tells a story that life is like a fast paced and never ending pursue of goals. However, at the end of the relentless journey, a great reward is awaiting.

The design of the stairways has no windows to view the outside world. This can be translated into solely focusing on life goals and not be distracted by the outside world. However, a hint of light will penetrate in from the small window high above head level to indicate that the journey is closer to the end.

In between staircase and ladders, a platform is placed for catching breath or for a short rest.

After resting, repetitive task has to be carried out in order to complete one's goal.

Space 3 - Daydream Stage

Turkish March By Mozart

Unknown Track - Unknown Artist
00:00 / 00:00

The ending part of Turkish March has a dynamic and loud ending. The ending is a clear cut and a satisfying ending.

The score is translated into what was satisfaction in life for Albert Einstein. Satisfaction in life to Einstein means engaging and to daydream in music. Therefore, a space is designed for Albert Einstein to fully engage in music without the distraction of the busy lifestyle. Also, the roof is made of glass to allow light from the sky to penetrate to give a feel of a different realm. The top stage serve as a place for Albert Einstein to daydream in music and to engage in music without any form of distractions.

The final project opened my mind to view things in a different perspective especially when designing a space/hideout for a client. I improved so much in terms of model making skills and drawing skills. On the other hand, working as a group taught me the importance of caring out for each other. Lastly, this project improved my usually negative mindset into thinking on how to solve a problem and not to discard a potential idea.
